New Detention Policy

Dear Students and Families,

Please read the following updated detention policy and procedures. Notification will also be sent home with students.

Detention Days and Times:

Wednesdays during lunch

Before School 8:10-8:40am

Afterschool 3:45-4:15pm

Purpose: The purpose of detention is to impress upon students responsibility for their behavior, academic success, prompt and consistent attendance. In the event that students’ choices are contrary to Rays’ expectations and standards, students will be held accountable and consequences will be imposed as outlined in Chicago Public School Student Code of Conduct.

Academic

Late homework or incomplete work.

A detention will be assigned when a third incomplete or late assignment occurs and for each subsequent late or incomplete assignment.

Attendance

Three or more tardies to school

Behavior

Disruptive behavior that interferes with school purposes or educational processes may result in an assigned detention.

Student Notification:

Homeroom teachers will receive a detention notice via mailbox or hand delivered on Monday and/or Friday. Please distribute before lunch.

Student will take a Detention Notice home for a parent signature.

Students are to report to detention with assignments and/or study materials. Non-compliant students will be given work.

Students are to be quiet and on task during the entire hour.

If the student fails to return the signed form the next day, an additional day of detention may be assigned and/or loss of school activities.

Misbehaving during detention may result in In-School Suspension.

Parent Notification

Parents will be notified by administration via telephone call and/or letter.

Parents are to sign the notice and send it back to school the designated day student serves detention.

Unserved Detention

If a student skips an assigned detention period for any reason other than illness, an additional detention will be assigned. After two skipped detentions, in-school suspension may be assigned. Additional skipped days may result in out of school suspension.
