Writing: Revise personal narrative

Writing Workshop Focus: When writers revise a narrative essay, they choose the most engaging part of the personal story to be central. Writers want to make sure that the central (or most important and interesting part) of the story does not get lost in extraneous (unnecessary) details.

Science: Study for quiz on Friday

Reading: Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie Reading Guide Chapters 1-3 (due Wednesday)

Writing: Revise personal narrative

Writing Workshop Focus:

In the revising stage of writing, writers often think about their lead—or opening sentence/paragraph. Writers revise to make sure their lead:

  • grabs the reader’s attention

  • 2) hints at the conflict

Science: Study for quiz on Friday

Reading: Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie Reading Guide Chapters 4-5 (due Friday)

Writing: Revise personal narrative

Writing Workshop Focus: Writers revise their writing to include more descriptive language. They avoid words like really, very, stuff and things and choose language carefully to communicate exactly what they mean to say.

Science: Study for quiz on Friday

Thursday

Reading: Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie Reading Guide Chapters 4-5 (due Friday)

Writing: Revise personal narrative

Writing Workshop Focus: When revising, writers use the exact words of people in their story or narrative re-telling. Including dialogue helps our readers to feel like they are experiencing a conversation with us.

Science: Study for quiz on Friday

Friday

Reading: Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie Reading Guide Chapters 6-7 (due Tuesday)

Writing: Edit personal narrative

Writing Workshop Focus: In the editing part of the writing process, writers make sure that they maintain the tense (present or past) throughout. We check to make sure that verbs or action words stay in past or present tense.
