Energy Source Brochure Project
Name: ____________________________________________
Due: ______________________________________________
Explanation: You work for an advertising agency and your job is to provide information about the energy source your company sells. Your job is to make a brochure about your energy source.
Directions:
Choose the energy source you will study and make a brochure about
Options:
Solar
Wind
Coal
Hydropower
Nuclear
Gather your resources
Science notebook
textbooks
one additional resource
Study your topic
Make your brochure
Brochure Outline
Page 1: Cover
Title/Your energy source
Your name
Drawing/Photo
Page 2: Overview of Energy
Define “energy”
Define “renewable resource” and give 3 examples of renewable resources
Define “non-renewable resource” and give 3 examples of nonrenewable resources
State the 3 laws of energy
Page 3: The Energy Source
Give a description of your energy source
Draw a picture of your energy source
Explain why your energy source is a renewable or nonrenewable energy source
Page 4: In-depth Look into the energy source
The advantages of using this energy source
The disadvantages
Page 5: Energy transfer-How does this energy source become electricity
Give a step-by-step explanation of how this energy source becomes electricity
Explain how the energy transfers in each step.
Explain which form(s) the energy takes in each step.
Example: How a waterfall becomes electricity
The water flows downstream and is in the form of motion energy.
As the water approaches the dam, it is transferred into gravitational energy because the potential energy is stored in the water’s height.
The gravitational potential energy becomes motion energy again when the water falls.
The water flows into the hydropower plant and into a turbine which uses mechanical energy.
The mechanical energy created by the turbine is transferred into electrical energy.
The electrical energy travels through power line to houses and businesses as electricity.
Page 6: Sources
List the sources you used for your research.
You should have at least 3 sources: your notes, textbook/handout from Ms. Glassco, and one additional source that you find on your own.
Rubric
Completeness: All elements complete; all questions answered 5 4 3 2 1
Accuracy: Information is accurate and it evident that you have used scientific resources.
5 4 3 2 1
Use of Scientific Language: Scientific language is used throughout. Key scientific terms from the unit (on the study guide in your notes) are defined. 5 4 3 2 1
Sources: Sources are included on page 6. Three sources are listed, including the one you found on your own. (Include title, author, page numbers.) 5 4 3 2 1
